The Pine Hill Haints are an American traditional tonk/country band from Alabama, though the band members themselves describe their unique southern roots music as "Alabama Ghost Music. The Haints are composed of Jamie Barrier on guitar and vocals, Katie "Kat" Barrier on mandolin, singing saw, and washboard, Stevie LaBlanc on washtub bass, Justin Ward on accordion and trombone, and Brian "Zero" Borden on snare drum. This 6 song album release came about simply because both bands loved the idea of doing a doing a split where they cover one of the other bands songs. and the album was born.

The Pine Hill Haints issued their earliest recordings (three full-lengths, a 12" vinyl, and several split albums) on Barrier's own Arkam Records before attracting attention from K Records' founder Calvin Johnson, who recorded the band's next release - You Bury Your Hate in a Shallow Grave - for free. The disc was released on Portland's LELP label, as was the band's follow-up EP, Pine Hill Haints Meet Clampitt, Gaddis & Buck.

Clampitt, Gaddis & Buck are an acoustic five-piece from Portland, Oregon who pay homage to traditional American roots, country, bluegrass, and gospel with their soaring harmonies and stripped-down style. Erik Clampitt and vocalist Marley Gaddis started working together in October of 2002. With Clampitt on guitar and harmonica and Gaddis sharing vocal duties, they took their fragile sound and gimmick-free live show to stages around Portland.
