I thought the future would be cooler I thought the brave world would be newer. Looking for the edge of our unrendered world I don’t know what we’ll find; Oh, here comes tomorrow! I thought the future would be cooler (nothing new) I thought the future would be cooler (underneath the sun) I thought the brave world would be newer (I can't save you) I thought the future would be cooler (you’re already gone)
We are the band YACHT. This is the tracklisticle for our new album, I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler. We chose to unveil it here on BuzzFeed because it's 2015 and the album is dead, the novel is dead, but the GIF loops forever. On the graph plotting human laziness against the development of virtual reality, where the two lines intersect matters. In one version, they cross right as space exploration becomes prohibitively expensive, risky, or politically unpopular.

I Thought The Future Would Be Cooler is a protest album (or a prevention album) for the future. But how do you make a protest album about something that hasn’t happened yet? One way YACHT attempts to do this is by creating a "place" for the album; to ground it in an environment that gives it a time and space in which to exist. From the album’s opening notes, the listener is dropped into an era where the music is both recognizable (New Wave synths and ‘70s funk lines are embedded in almost every track) and foreign.
The duo of Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans – better known as YACHT – returned last month with their fifth pop-disco dance album, I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler, promoting their multifaceted artistic experience through fax machines and billboards. YACHT stands for Young Americans Challenging High Technology, and the band’s kaleidoscopic endeavors as writers, speakers, and performers earns the acronym.
Jumping ahead a few years to their 2015 record I Thought the Future Would Be Cooler, YACHT have gone even further in a pop direction and become happy purveyors of pumped-up, slicked-back jams that range from Sugar Ray-inspired tracks like the bouncing "I Wanna Fuck You Till I'm Dead" to robotic reggae ("White Mirror"), glittering
