Incident At Vichy By Arthur Miller LP set TRS318M. by Harold Clurman With David Wayne, Hal Holbrook And Others. Incident at vichy (original cast lp, 1965).

Harold Rowe Holbrook Jr. (born February 17, 1925) is an American actor, television director and writer. He first received critical acclaim in 1954 for a one-man stage show he developed, Mark Twain Tonight, while studying at Denison University, performing as Mark Twain. He won Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 1966 for his portrayal of Twain  . In 1964, Holbrook played the role of the Major in the original production of Arthur Miller's Incident at Vichy. In 1968, he was one of the replacements for Richard Kiley in the original Broadway production of Man of La Mancha, although he had limited singing ability.

Following closely on the heels of the Broadway revival of playwright Arthur Miller’s All My Sons, which closed January 11, The Actors Company Theatre is slated to bring the scribe’s rarely seen drama Incident at Vichy back to the New York stage for the first time since its debut in 1964. The play was originally commissioned for the New Lincoln Center Theatre Company, directed by Harold Clurman and starring Joseph Wiseman, David Wayne and Hal Holbrook. Incident at Vichy features TACT company members Jamie Bennett, Richard Ferrone, Todd Gearhart, Jack Koenig, Ron McClary, James Prendergast and Gregory Salata. Staged by Harold Clurman for the Lincoln Center, Incident at Vichy was not a great critical or commercial success. Miller’s remarkable one-act play features a detention center in Vichy, in 1942, and a group of characters snatched up from the streets by the French police and awaiting an interview with one Professor Hoffman, a Nazi expert who is being logistically assisted by a morally deracinated Wehrmacht major. Cultural history hasn’t been kind to Incident at Vichy, either at home or abroad, and the more recent revivals have yet to undo decades of neglect. Prior to the start of a French national awakening to the truth about the country’s complicity in the murder of European Jews, Incident at Vichy had had a perilous time getting staged in France, despite Miller’s great popularity.

Complete summary of Arthur Miller's Incident at Vichy. eNotes plot summaries cover all the significant action of Incident at Vichy. Lebeau, in Miller's play Incident at Vichy, is a character who is ruled by fear.

Arthur Miller-who would have turned 100 on October 17-has had a great week in New York, with a riveting production of A View from the Bridge (at the Lyceum) and an admirably effective production of Incident at Vichy (as the Signature). Admirably effective" isn't quite so hats-in-the-air as "riveting," but then Vichy isn't nearly the play that View is. Miller, like his contemporary Tennessee Williams, had an early rush of success followed by decades and decades of plays that went unappreciated. Death of a Salesman (1949) is, clearly, at the top of Miller's. These roles were created, in Harold Clurman's original production, by Joseph Wiseman, David Wayne and Hal Holbrook. Darren Pettie and Richard Thomas in Incident at Vichy. Arthur Miller's Incident at Vichy opened November 15, 2015 and continues through December 20 at the Signature Center.
