Giuseppe di Stefano - The Art Of Giuseppe di Stefano FLAC album

Giuseppe Di Stefano (24 July 1921 – 3 March 2008) was an Italian operatic tenor who sang professionally from the mid 1940s until the early 1990s, although there was a sharp decline in his, until then extraordinary, vocal powers during the early 1960s. Called Pippo by both fans and friends, he was known as the "Golden voice" or "The most beautiful voice", as the true successor of Beniamino Gigli. Luciano Pavarotti said he modeled himself after Di Stefano

This 2011 set from Decca combines four recording Giuseppe di Stefano made between 1956 and 1965. It gives anyone unfamiliar with the great, post-World War II tenor a taste of what he sounded like in his prime and in the repertoire for which he was best known. The final two discs are a complete performance of Donizetti 's L'elisir d'amore, with di Stefano portraying the love-struck Nemorino and Hilde Gueden as the fickle Adina, all conducted by Francesco Molinari-Pradelli. Giuseppe Di Stefano is one of the great Italian tenors in history. For many, he possessed the most beautiful timbre of any lyric tenor and some fans lament the tenor’s insistence on singing operas that were often darker and heavier than his lyric could seemingly handle. And yet, one of the reasons why Pippo, born on July 24, 1921, was so compelling as an artist was his ability to use his voice with such depth of expression. Di Stefano wasn’t just a great vocalist with polished phrasing and beautiful sound.
