1976's T Shirt was Loudon Wainwright III's first album for Arista Records, and marked his third major-label deal in six years. With this in mind, T Shirt occasionally sounds as if Wainwright was trying to give the label something it could actually market - backed by the band Slowtrain, Wainwright pulls off a few credible stabs at rock & roll, such as "Bicentennial" and "California Prison Blues," and even delivers a genuinely funky disco number, "At Both Ends

T Shirt is a 1976 album by Loudon Wainwright III. Unlike his earlier records, this (and the subsequent 'Final Exam') saw Wainwright adopt a full blown rock band (Slowtrain) - though there are acoustic songs on T-Shirt, including a talking blues. Nevertheless it had the misfortune to arrive on the scene at the same time as punk rock, making it immediately dated in the eyes of many critics. All tracks composed by Loudon Wainwright III; except where indicated.

Album by Loudon Wainwright III. Bicentennial. Summer's Almost Over. California Prison Blues. Talking Big Apple '75. Prince Hal's Dirge. Just Like President Thieu. Wine with Dinner (Night Cap). MusicBrainz: T Shirt.

Loudon Wainwright III Wainwright writes with more precision and imagination than any other singer-songwriter of the current boom, and his melodies stick with you. He sings and plays with such authority that even though this record features only voice and acoustic guitar it's powerful musically. I enjoy this record quite a bit, but I admire it more, and sometimes I don't like it at all. B-. Album II In which Wainwright untwists the dense too literal and/or analytic to qualify as metaphor-that made his first album so hard to take, though for those who'd like to sample the mode "Be Careful, There's a Baby in the House" is as good as it gets
