They dumped the orchestra this time out in favor of Mike Pinder's Mellotron, which was a more than adequate substitute, and the rest of the band joined in with flutes, sitar, tablas, and cellos, the playing of which was mostly learned on the spot. The whole album was one big experiment to see how far the group could go with any instruments they could find, thus making this album a rather close cousin to the Beatles' records of the same era.

Album stereo mix remastered from the original master tapes at Logical Box Studios, Genova, Italy. com Bonus tracks remastering at the Audio Archiving Company, London. Disc Two (CD): Track 2-1: recorded at Decca Studio Number One West Hampstead on 12th June 1968 Track 2-2: recorded at Decca Studio Number One West Hampstead on 28th May 1968 Track 2-3: Decca Studios West Hampstead - 13th January 1968 Track 2-4: recorded at Decca Studio Number One West Hampstead on 4th June 1968 Track.

Both of the French broadcasts are previously unreleased. The set also includes a 76-page book with extensive sleeve notes by its compiler, Mark Powell, as well as a generous selection of rare photos and memorabilia images.

The album was originally released in 1968 and was a concept album concerning itself with the spiritual and philosophical concerns of the psychedelic era, featuring the hits Ride My See Saw and Voices In The Sky as well as much-loved Moody Blues songs Legend Of A Mind and The Actor. The deluxe format will be a 3CD/2DVD box set, featuring original and new stereo remixes of the album with bonus and unreleased tracks, including a never-before-heard mono version of Legend Of A Mind.

A new version of Last. Overview (current section). Let us know what you think of the Last.

The Moody Blues had created quite a stir with their second album Days of Future Passed (1967): its innovative cocktail of pop/rock and classical orchestra music was something people weren't exactly used to in 1967. The full orchestral backing gave the album a lush, warm feel, but also made it more challenging for the group to follow up such a project, now having to rely solely on their own abilities. It is safe to say however, that they managed to overcome that challenge quite well.
