Hole’s second album, Live Through This, famously came out four days after Love’s husband Kurt Cobain was found dead at their home in Seattle. The sudden tragedy threatened to swallow the music, to say nothing of the genre and social movement in which it was encased. Live Through This refers to autobiographical traumas, but it is not a confessional record. The whole cliché of women being cathartic really pisses me off, Love said in a 1994 SPIN cover story. You know, ‘Oh, this is therapy for me. I’d die if I didn’t write this. Eddie Vedder says shit like that.

Asking for It" is a song by the American alternative rock band Hole. It is the fourth track on the band's second studio album, Live Through This, released on April 12, 1994 on Geffen Records. The song was written by vocalist and rhythm guitarist Courtney Love and lead guitarist Eric Erlandson.

Released April 12, 1994. Live Through This Tracklist. Considered by many to be their magnum opus, Live Through This, Hole’s second studio album following Pretty On the Inside (1991), was met with much acclaim: critics praised Courtney Love’s crooning as she sings of life’s pressures and her own personal challenges. Many of her lyrics cover deeply-rooted emotions, spanning topics such as motherhood, depression, child abuse, and self-image, as well as her transcendence over her personal issues.

The third album by Jack and Meg White was the right dynamite for a mainstream breakthrough. Jack’s Delta-roadhouse fantasies, Detroit-garage-rock razzle and busted-love lyricism, as well as Meg’s toy-thunder drumming all peaked at once. King’s first album for the Stax label combines his hard, unflashy guitar playing with the sleek sound of the label’s house band, Booker T. and the MG’s. Hits such as Crosscut Saw and Laundromat Blues earned King a new rock & roll audience.

Live Through This is one of the best rock albums of the ’90s, full stop. Released at the height of the grunge boom, it mixes punk ferocity with catchy jangle-pop, and contains some of the most potent feminist lyrics to ever find their way onto the radio. Miss World" smuggles its confrontational lines within easy-to-digest hooks, while the monster choruses and dynamics of "Violet" and "Doll Parts" established Courtney Love as a songwriting force to be reckoned with, drama be damned. Live Through This is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Hole. It was released by DGC Records on April 12, 1994, just one week after frontwoman Courtney Love's husband, Kurt Cobain, died in their home. It was Hole's only album to feature bassist Kristen Pfaff before her death in June 1994. Recorded in October 1993, the album marked a divergence from the band's unpolished hardcore aesthetics to more refined melodies and song structure, and features production by Sean Slade and Paul Q. Kolderie, with mixing by Scott Litt and J Mascis.
