Viva La Vida Coldplay.
In 2005, Coldplay released their third album, X&Y. In many ways, it was one of those collections where a band starts to sound exactly like everyone’s most basic idea of them. The subtle hints of something weirder that lingered at the edges of Parachutes and A Rush Of Blood To The Head, the element that allowed Coldplay to straddle the worlds of murky post-Britpop atmospheric rock and more straight-up mainstream pop, were mostly brushed away for their polished and often sappy third effort.
The track is built around string section and percussion background, with historical and biblical references in the lyrics. It is the second single from Coldplay’s fourth album Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends released in 2008. The chorus has musical similarities to Joe Satriani’s instrumental piece If I Could Fly. Satriani sued Coldplay for plagiarism; they settled out of court. What have the artists said about the song? Viva La Vida biography. The band chat about their fourth album in this official interview for its release. Coldplay – ‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends’. This album was fueled by a desire to move from black and white into colour, says Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Or, if you like, we decided to let our garden grow a little more unkempt. The bloodhound was let off its leash. However you might describe it, there’s no mistaking the artistic leap which ‘Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends’ represents for the four friends collectively known as Coldplay . Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends’ takes its title from the extremes of emotions that fuel it. This is an album characterised by loss and uncertainty, travel and time, happiness and regrets. I’m not sure if it’s bi-polar syndrome, but we definitely have something going on in our heads which is as much down as it is up, says Martin.

CHRIS MARTIN, uitar: Well, once we finish something, I can’t really listen to it because all I hear are problems. And I mean the most nerdy, anal problems I can’t even describe in an interview because it would look so terrible in print, but I’m talking EQs and sibilants and all that crazy stuff. Because most of the album ended up being live, the whole record is just very well-organized mistakes.

I used to rule the world Seas would rise when I gave the word Now in the morning I sleep alone Sweep the streets I used to own. I used to roll the dice Feel the fear in my enemy’s eyes Listened as the crowd would sing Now the old king is dead long live the king One minute I held the key Next the walls were closed on me And I discovered that my castles stand Upon pillars of salt and pillars of sand.
