Valery Alekseyevich Legasov (Russian: Валерий Алексеевич Легасов; September 1, 1936 – April 27, 1988) was a Soviet inorganic chemist and a member of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. He is now mainly remembered for his work as the chief of the commission investigating the Chernobyl disaster. Legasov was born on September 1, 1936, in Tula, Russian SFSR, into a family of civil workers. He attended secondary school in Kursk.

Bonus points for Legasov giving lectures on human sexuality. Time and physics have always fascinated Valery Legasov. Atoms and molecules all move under the same dimension of time and obeys the laws of physics. Ulana Khomyuk can also agree and offer her opinion.

old man Legasov got angr. while comic Valeras oscillated between amused and questioning my sanity. And yeah, when I saw him again as Legasov and watching his vids I was lik. hat’. rong with this picture? How is this guy cute without being cute? How is he graceful without being pretty?

Legasov was also the person who delivered a five-hour oral report on the causes of the disaster at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna - an honest and detailed report that calmed down the international community but angered colleagues at home. Legasov worked without rest, often not paying attention to the dosimeter, a device that measures dose uptake of external ionizing radiation. He was the only scientist working at the site, his daughter recalls. He understood quite well what he was doing and how much radiation he was being exposed to.

Valery Legasov was born in Tula into a family of civil workers. He graduated from the Mendeleev Moscow Institute of Chemistry and Technology and did his graduate studies in the Kurchatov Institute of Atomic Energy. He received the degree of Candidate in 1967 and his doctorate in chemistry in 1972, a remarkable achievement for a 36-year-old scientist. Legasov was a professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology. From 1983 until his death he was the chair of the department of Chemical Technology at the Chemistry Department of Moscow State University

But the real story of Valery Legasov in Chernobyl, played by Jared Harris, makes it somehow even more tragic. Harris' character is based on the real Legasov, a Soviet Union nuclear physicist who led the commission investigating the disaster. The AP reported that the 51-year-old Legasov had died just two years and one day after the Chernobyl accident. His cause of death was unreleased at the time by the Soviet media, but as was reported a couple of weeks later (and as Chernobyl shows), Legasov committed suicide.
