The Tale of the Tape is a rock album by Billy Squier that was released in May 1980. It was his first solo album, following two albums with the band Piper. The disc spent three months on Billboard's album chart, setting Squier's career in motion. Several of its tracks were popular on AOR (Album Oriented Rock) radio. Although no songs from the album reached the charts, the song "The Big Beat" has been notably sampled by hip hop artists, including Run-D.
This I think is Billy's first video ever as a solo artist. The song is The Big Beat from his Tale of the Tape album from 1980. The opening beat, the "Iiiii" and the "get on down" were the most sampled parts. ccof4rg Product Description Squier by Bundle includes Squier by Fender Standard Telecaster, Strings, String Winder, Pick Card, and Polishing Cloth. William Haislip Squier (/ˈskwaɪ. r/, born May 12, 1950) is an American rock musician and singer. Squier had a string of arena rock hits in the 1980s. He is best known for the song "The Stroke", from his 1981 album Don't Say No. Other hits include "My Kinda Lover", "In the Dark", "Rock Me Tonite", "Lonely Is the Night", "Everybody Wants You" and "Emotions in Motion".
Squier admits a Queen influence in this song, and Queen's guitarist Brian May was at one point slated to produce the album. When May backed out because of scheduling conflicts, Reinhold Mack, who produced Queen's album The Game, stepped in. In a 1982 interview with Sounds magazine, he said: "I've listened to Queen ever since their first album, I've known them for ten years, and I think they're very innovative and done a lot of things that I like – in the same way that Led Zeppelin has. I don't think I'm making surrogate Queen music. Squier released a radically different version of this song on his 1999 acoustic album Happy Blue. According to Squier, the distinctive drum sound was created by recording the snare drum backwards and playing it just ahead of the real drum. More songs from Billy Squier.
