Wages of Sin is the fourth studio album by the Swedish melodic death metal band Arch Enemy. It is the first Arch Enemy album to feature the vocals of Angela Gossow. It is also the first album they use Standard-C tuning, which they still use today. It was released on 25 April 2001 in Japan, but the European and American releases were delayed to 18 March 2002.
Wages of Sin (2001) by Arch Enemy. Labels: Century Media Records. Genres: Melodic Death Metal Members: Angela Gossow, Michael Amott, Christopher Amott, Sharlee D'Angelo, Daniel Erlandsson. It was released on April 25th, 2001 in Japan, but the European and American releases were delayed to March 18th, 2002. Wages of Sin was well received by most critics, who praised the new singer Angela Gossow. Blake Jessop of Blistering said that she handles the vocals on the album expertly. But he wrote that "while less diverse than Liiva, the diminutive German's more traditional death metal style gives Wages an uncommonly brutal, if slightly less creative ai.
Ravenous" video clip by M. Eriksson at Eyetool. CD2 is "a collection of rare & unreleased songs from the Arch Enemy vault", and also contains the video for "The Immortal". Starbreaker" was recorded and mixed at Studio Recordia, Sweden in 1998. Previously unreleased "Aces High" was recorded and mixed at Studio Fredman in the summer of 1996. Originally released on the Iron maiden tribute album "Made In Tribute".
Arch Enemy was brought together by guitarist Michael Amott (ex. Carcass) in 1996. This Death Metal/Melodic Death Metal band, hailing from Sweden, mixes fiery riffs with melodic leads to give you that "in your face" experience shown by many of the same genre. The original cast of musicians that accompanied Michael Amott were Christopher Amott (guitar), Daniel Erlandsson (drums), and vocalist Johan Liiva. In 1998 they relased "Stigmata. In my opinion, the album that made them such a success, and 1999s "Burning Bridges," featuring ex-Mercyful Fate bassist Sharlee D'Angelo
The riffing an be best described as choppy, finely pitched and repetitive. The only decent track I found of this album was 'Burning Angel'. Competing with the excellent guitar work is the remarkable death vocals of Angela Gossow in her first album with Arch Enemy. Quite honestly, as far as death metal singers go, her voice is incredible. While not quite the highest or lowest of all death metal growlers, she has a great range.
