Bobbi Humphrey - Blacks And Blues FLAC album

Blacks And Blues (Digitally Remastered).

Bobbi Humphrey scored her biggest hit with her third album Blacks and Blues, an utterly delightful jazz-funk classic that helped make her a sensation at Montreux. If it sounds a lot like Donald Byrd's post-Black Byrd output, it's no accident; brothers Larry and Fonce Mizell have their fingerprints all over the album, and as on their work with Byrd, Larry handles all the composing and most of the arranging and production duties.

Bobbi does some singing on this album too in a girlish but charming voice. The ensembles found on the Mizell Bros albums were always filled with heavyweights and this one does not disappoint, with stalwart Harvey Mason on the drum kit and the regal King Erisson on congas pinning down the lush soundscapes to solid earth.

Recorded June 7 & 8, 1973 at Sound Factory, Hollywood, California. Mastered at Mastering Lab, Hollywood, California. Catalog number printed on the labels and the back cover: "BN-LA142-G". This version can be distinguished by the text on the labels. For example, on the other 1974 US pressing, the track numbers are right justified from the "1" in "Side 1" on the labels.

Album · 1974 · 6 Songs. On opener Chicago, Damn, Humphrey’s control of tone is laser-like, fitting easily alongside the synth sounds. And her vocals on Just a Love Child and Baby’s Gone have a lilting charm. The Mizell Brothers’ compositions and production smarts keep this artifact of the early-’70s fusion phenomenon feeling timeless. Blacks and Blues Bobbi Humphrey.

BOBBI HUMPHREY Blacks and Blues Original sealed 8 track cassette tape. If ever there was an album for driving around with the top down on a hot summer night, Blacks and Blues is it. I can see no flaws in the music what so ever, if you take it for what it is, a Contemporary jazz funk album, The music just feels urban, it feels like a party in the heart NYC. It can not be overlooked the contribution of the Brothers Mizell, Larry and Fonce, with all the compositions and arrangements from the pair, Bobbi Humphrey has a nice voice on flute, obviously this album is a studio creation, with many session players, but unlike The Donald Byrd Mizell brothers produced albums.

Bobbi Humphrey Format: Vinyl. Harlem River Drive" is probably the track most people will know Bobbi for and it's well placed in this album, characterising it if you will. The whole piece is a unique work of art. It really has a feel of it's own.
