We're New Here is a remix album by American recording artist Gil Scott-Heron and English music producer Jamie xx, released on February 21, 2011, by Young Turks and XL Recordings. A longtime fan of Scott-Heron, Jamie xx was approached by XL label head Richard Russell to remix Scott-Heron's 2010 studio album I'm New Here. He worked on the album while touring with his band The xx in 2010 and occasionally communicated with Scott-Heron through letters for his approval to rework certain material.

Gil Scott-Heron's 2010 album, I'm New Here, was his first of original material in 16 years and best in three decades. But though it was a joyful return to the living for the once-homeless recovering addict and pivotal figure of pre-South Bronx talking blues, the album is defined by pallor. It's grim stuff, built around Scott-Heron's ashes-to-ashes baritone and XL founder Richard Russell's skeletal production, caked in grime and rust  . Do your best to ignore the impulse, because the residue of death that lingers on I'm New Here is wiped clean from We're New Here. It's replaced with brightness, an energy, and a historical milieu. Smith samples older Scott-Heron songs and works them into these newer songs.

I'm New Here' contains a sample of the recording 'Casanova Brown' as performed by Gloria Gaynor. I've Been Me (Interlude)' contains a sample of 'Boxcar Hobo' by Sassafrass. Certain Things (Interlude)' contains a sample of the recording 'Slaves' as performed by Giuliano Sorgini.

There can be few albums more eagerly awaited than the next release from south-west London's purveyors of intimacy, the xx. But while the Mercury prize‑winning trio's second album is still very much under construction, various x's have been limbering up with extracurricular tunes. Romy Madley Croft recently contributed a sultry vocal to a track called "Days", by digital duo Creep. While Oliver Sim has lain low, band producer Jamie Smith has turned out remixes by the fistful – such as his sparse, dancehall deconstruction of Adele's "Rolling in the Deep"
