Screaming Dead & The Deformed - (A) Compilation Of LP's And EP's Of Two 80's Dark Punk Bands FLAC album

The subject of who is the greatest punk band has fueled argument and debate for decades. Punk and punk inspired musical acts are more common than ever but the underground punk acts of the 70s and 80s will always be remembered for creating a culture for rebellion.

1 Sex Pistols The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band formed in London in 1975. Although they initially lasted just two and a half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, they are considered one of the most influential acts in the history. UK punk, all down to these, end of. Yes you got this one right although they should have got number 1 all time punk bands as well. I sometimes wish I was born in the 80's to see them live and hear them on radio. After a less than promising start -notably the dismal and amateurish 'Join Hands', from 1980's Kaleidoscope onwards they couldn't put a foot wrong and ended up both punk's longest (original) survivors and one of the most creative outfits the UK has ever produced. Out off this world thanks to the kings the pistols.

Most of the bands in the current dark punk movement incorporate elements from the grand trifecta of anarcho-punk, post-punk, and deathrock. Notably absent are the more glam-tinged and visually flamboyant influences from the Batcave scene, whose over-the-top visual style came to dominate what was associated with deathrock after the ’90s and early ’00s. Instead, the sensibility that informs most current dark punk groups comes from ‘80s . hardcore and its contemporaneous . Check out Intro on this LP, which leads directly into the muscular and quintessential Midnight Rain. Slimy Member, Ugly Songs for Ugly People.

Screaming Dead are a punk rock band from Cheltenham formed in 1980, who have often been characterized as "horror punk". They released several singles and EPs with indie chart success, before splitting up in 1985. They reformed in 1997; disbanded again in 1999; and reformed in 2014.

Their Bandcamp page lists deathrock and goth punk as the two genre tags for the band, but the overall sound of the band to me often has a straightforward, mid-tempo dark crust feel. You can decide for yourself by streaming or downloading the band’s demo below. Bands like Witch Hunt, Decadent Few, and Burning Kitchen come to mind. But some of Stranger’s stuff reminds me of the band Fuckmorgue from Winnipeg, Canada – a short-lived band from a decade ago that played a e mix of crust, gothic rock, deathrock, and black metal and which featured members of the hardcore band.

The video for the album’s title track was filmed in an abandoned Victorian shoe factory in Northampton, seemingly paying homage the Hammer Horror films of the 70’s. The band were not authorized to film there, and had to sneak in and out for the production. 3. Siouxsie & the Banshees- Juju (Polydor, 1981). The followup EP Bites has been reissued together in a compilation alongside Remission, and is noteworthy for its opening track Assimilate, which is arguably Skinny Puppy’s most popular song. 21. Killing Joke- Night Time (EG, 1985). While hardly their first record, Night Time is the sound of a band at the peak of their powers. As the 80s continued, more and more bands took up the torch, and The Lorries’ debut is a real statement of intent, complete with pummeling drum rhythms, throbbing guitars, monotone vocals, and a string of biting singles that helped put the scene on the map.

Dead Kennedys' debut LP is the ultimate hardcore comedy album, with singer Jello Biafra playing Johnny Rotten as goofball satirist on songs like "California Über Alles" and "Holiday in Cambodia. Fueled by the band's technically sharp guitarist, "East Bay" Ray Pepperell, Fresh Fruit also had more musical fire than contemporary efforts by similarly over-the-top hardcore shock-rockers like Fear or the Adolescents. White Lung, ‘Deep Fantasy’ (2014). This Vancouver band comes on like Black Flag fronted by the bastard daughter of Patti Smith and Stevie Nicks, with each song going off like a nail bomb of desire.
