Bernstein conducts brilliantly. The New York Philharmonic plays magnificently. The vocal soloists sing beautifully. And the chorus is very good. That's not hard in the first two movements. If I were at a subscription concert and heard this sweeping opening movement and ebullient Scherzo, I'd have no complaints.
