Amazing ballad from a strangest and most underrated "post" album ever, VU& final studio outing "Squeeze"
Listen to Squeeze by The Velvet Underground on Deezer.
Squeeze is the fifth and final studio album released by The Velvet Underground. It features no members of the Lou Reed-era group other than t Doug Yule, who wrote and recorded the album almost entirely by himself. Yule had joined the Velvet Underground prior to recording their self-titled third album, replacing founding member John Cale, and had contributed significantly to the fourth album, Loaded.
Most people have never heard the album - it’s been buried and rarely heard, so it’s been accepted as common knowledge that it’s awful and the truth is, it’s not. Now, it’s not great, it may not even be good, and in many ways, it is indeed a bit of a sacrilege to what Lou, John, Sterling, and Mo created, a comparison Doug Yule courts by going out of his way to create a commercial rewrite of Loaded, almost following its flow and topics track by track.

After White Light/White Heat John Cale was kicked off the band by Lou Reed, who hired Doug Yule, referring to him as a more skilled bass player and a decent singer, who he was, indeed.
Squeeze is the fifth and final Velvet Underground album – however, it’s a Velvet Underground album in name only. The entire thing was recorded by Doug Yule with some sparse help from Deep Purple drummer Ian Paice and some session musicians. At this point in the band’s chronology, the only remaining member from the original Velvets lineup was drummer Maureen Tucker. Lou Reed, John Cale and Sterling Morrison had been replaced by Walter Powers, Doug Yule and Willie Alexander. However, most of these musicians didn’t appear on Squeeze at all – the band’s manager, Steve Sesnick, pared the band down.

It was primarily written and recorded by singer-guitarist Doug Yule in a London recording studio, following the departures of Lou Reed and Sterling Morrison. Maureen Tucker, while still technically the band's drummer at this time, was not involved in the recording, reportedly due to cost-cutting measures.
