Grateful Dead Europe '72 Vol. 2. An essential continuation of the original that includes more than two hours of unreleased performances from that storied tour. Grateful Dead archivist David Lemieux, who produced this 20-track compilation, says he only chose song titles that did not appear on Europe ’72 as a way to complement the original. I think this album, coupled with Europe ’72, represents a complete overview of the tour in every way, he says

I grew up with Europe 72. It was my go to when I wanted to listen to tightly performed, good sing along Dead. I was actively trading Dead shows all through my late teens up through the digital era when just about any show could be downloaded off the web. Having amassed a sizable Dead show collection I still go back periodically and listen to Europe 72. Now that I have Vol. 2 in my collection I will be including this album in my regular rotation

The Grateful Dead commemorated their first extended European tour with an extravagant triple-LP set appropriately enough titled Europe '72. This collection is fashioned in much the same way as their previous release - which had also been a live multi-disc affair. With the additional album the band was able to again incorporate some of their exceedingly stretched-out instrumental improvisations - titled "Epilogue" and "Prelude" here. Since their last outing, the group had expanded to include the husband-and-wife team of Keith Godchaux (keyboards) and Donna Jean Godchaux (vocals).
