Shostakovich: String Quartets No., 8 & 14. Borodin Quartet. This cycle of all fifteen quartets was recorded for Decca in Moscow from 2014 to 2018. It is excellent - dark, full-bodied and resonant. String Quartets 1-15 fill the first six discs. Disc Seven features the Piano Quintet, with Alexei Volodin on piano, as well as fascinating early music from the film "Podrugi" (Op. 41a) of 1936, with piano and trumpet.

The Borodin Quartet commences its 2018/19 season tour of the US on 17 March with a series of prestigious concerts. This season marks the quartet’s return to The Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center for their Winter Festival ‘Russian Panorama’. Embodying this theme perfectly, the Russian grand masters (Daily Telegraph Australia) will perform a programme of Miaskovsky, Shostakovich and Borodin. With over 7 hours of new recordings, the set includes Shostakovich’s String Quartets 1–15 plus a selection of lesser known works by Shostakovich, including the Borodin Quartet’s debut recording of the ‘Unfinished Quartet’ movement Allegretto in E flat major. Pianist Alexei Lubimov and trumpet player Sergei Nakariakov join the Borodin Quartet for live recordings of Music from the film Podrugi (‘Girlfriends’), while Alexei Volodin.

Tchaikovsky & Borodin - Complete String Quartets (p. 41-86) Mineola: Dover Publications, 1994. Belaieff issued a study score (re-engraved) in 1894. They issued a large score and parts in 1890 (plates 216, 217). I-Catalogue NumberI-Cat. No. IAB 13. Key. A major.

Now, 70 years later, the quartet members come from a new generation but have remained true to their roots and to the artistic excellence and integrity that have always been a hallmark of this astonishing ensemble.
