Runaround Sue" is a pop song, in a modified doo-wop style, originally a US No. 1 hit for the singer Dion during 1961 after he split with the Belmonts. The song ranked No. 351 on the Rolling Stone list of "The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time". The song was written by Dion with Ernie Maresca, and tells the story of a disloyal lover. The lyrics are sung from the point of view of a man whose former girlfriend, named Sue, was extremely unfaithful

He is best remembered for the singles "Runaround Sue", "The Wanderer", "Ruby Baby" and "Lovers Who Wander", among his other hits. Dion's popularity waned in the mid-1960s. Toward the end of the decade, he shifted his style and produced songs with a more mature, contemplative feeling, such as "Abraham, Martin and John. Writing about this experience later, in his autobiography, The Wanderer, Dion said that he had never met the Timberlanes and didn't even know who they were. The vocal group was so white bread, I went back to my neighborhood and I recruited a bunch of guys – three guys – and we called ourselves Dion and the Belmonts.

On the Runaround Sue album from 1961 the added tracks are Could Somebody Take My Place Tonight and So Long Friend. On the number 1 single Runaround Sue and number 2 single The Wanderer from 1961 Dion used the Del Satins as as his backing vocal group for the first time. The Del Satins didn't like the two songs at the time. Dion used the Del Satins on almost his tracks on Laurie and Columbia including all his eight solo top ten hits from late 1961 through 1963.
Lyrics to "The Wanderer" song by Dion: Oh, well, I'm the type of guy who will never settle down Where pretty girls are, well, you know that. They call me the wanderer Yeah, the wanderer I roam around, around, around, around. Oh, well, there's Flo on my left and there's Mary on my right And Janie is the girl, well, that I'll be with tonight And when she asks me, which one I love the best? I tear open my shirt and I show her "Rosie" on my chest. Cause I'm a wanderer Yeah, the wanderer I roam around, around, around, around. Oh, well, I roam from town to town I go through life without a care And I'm as happy as a clown I with my two fists of iron but I'm going nowhere.
Dion as a solo artist was initially a kind of hybrid performer, known for his teen idol image but trying for a harder and also a more advanced sound, as revealed on this album. The hits included here, "Runaround Sue," "The Wanderer," and "The Majestic," are so familiar that they tend to eclipse the rest of this 14 song album - all of the rest, however, is well-sung, -played, and -arranged, ranging from basic hard rock & roll ("Kansas City") to smooth teen pop, which always keeps at least one foot up to the ankle in rock & roll.
