Once heard, however, you’re hooked. The album finds Nelson more focused than many of his contemporaries in the 90s, ensuring that his songs aren’t swamped by the overarching themes that bring them together. 35: Semisonic: Feeling Strangely Fine (March 1998) The temptation may be to reduce Semisonic to ‘Closing Time’, the N. 1 US and Top 25 UK hit for which the band are mostly remembered. But that would be to overlook the breadth of styles on display on this, their second album, whose 12 tracks were whittled down from an initial number of 60 – and yet still display an abundance of ideas. If you like this type of lists, you are (or should b. old enough to know it was Down Beat. The first supergroup almost no one has heard of. Great stuff! Reply.
The World Won't Listen is a compilation album by The Smiths, released in February 1987 by Rough Trade Records. It reached No. 2 on the UK Albums Chart, staying on the charts for 15 weeks. The album was conceived as a collection of the singles and their B-sides from 1985 to 1987
They’ve dabbled in country, soul and folk over the years, but their music always sounds gritty and unpretentious, even as they embrace the power of soaring guitar solos and rock operas. Start with Decoration Day or Go-Go Boots and go from there. Their best albums are feats of storytelling with threads connecting the songs. Better still, their music owes much to The Replacements, so often rousing with its fist-bumping choruses ( our songs are sing-along songs, Finn sings in one song), but always human in the flaws omnipresent between all the raging parties. They rock, but they rock cleverly - it’s the kind of music that you can either enjoy for the sludge-y surface level appeal or dissect to discover its complexities. All three of their albums are stellar, but double album Yellow & Green offers the best sampling of the band’s sound.
If you go in for live Zappa this album rates near the best official live releases I've heard. For first timers interested in exploring the live Zappa experience I'd still recommend Roxy & Elsewhere or YCDTOSA Volume 1 but If you have those already then you can't miss with this one. Any live disc that includes the trio of "Florentine Pogen" "Andy" "Inca Roads" is a winner in my book, so long as sound quality is there. Because the band that he had assembled after the demise of the pson/Fowler based bands of the 70's just didn't match up to the level of genius, in my own small opinion. Joe's Garage? Did you hear that fart sound?
